Metaplex Expands Beyond Solana Mainnet with Sonic SVM
The Metaplex Foundation has announced that it will deploy its product suite on Sonic SVM, Solana’s first gaming Layer 2. This collaboration is expected to drive on the advancement of game development with Metaplex’s digital asset protocol, which has turned into a leading digital asset protocol on Solana.
With Sonic, Metaplex is going to bring its on-chain programs and developer tools, designed to provide prime gaming experiences to the SVM chain. Notably, it will be the first deployment of Metaplex products outside the Solana Mainnet.
The Metaplex Protocol is a decentralized platform operating on the Solana blockchain that gives creators, developers, and businesses a platform for building dApps on Solana and the SVM. It powers various assets, such as NFTs, fungible tokens, RWAs, and game assets. This protocol is widely used, minting over 550 million assets across 55 million unique wallets.
Now, Metaplex’s popular programs like Token Metadata, Candy Machine, and Bubblegum, alongside its other new standards—including Core and MPL-404— will provide a strong development environment for game devs on the Sonic SVM Devnet, Testnet, and Mainnet.
Stephen Hess, Director of Metaplex Foundation, emphasized the significance of this collaboration: “Metaplex developers can now build powerful applications that are fully compatible with Solana while benefiting from the advantages of the dedicated Sonic SVM L2. Sonic: The Gaming L2 Built on HyperGrid
Sonic is a gaming L2 built on HyperGrid, a parallel processing framework with high configurability and scalability that is natively composable with Solana. It becomes the first native atomic SVM chain, able to support independent game economies on Solana.
Highlighting its solid potential, Sonic’s Testnet Odyssey launch in June reached over 100,000 wallets and processed 17 million transactions in its first week.
Highlighting the potential of the new partnership, Sonic SVM’s CEO Chris Zhu remarked: “We have developed the HyperGrid Framework with a multi-SVM ecosystem in mind that runs on top of Solana. We’re very excited to work with Metaplex on developing new and innovative technologies that will be used not only within our ecosystem, but across all other SVMs.”
Metaplex’s participation in the Sonic SVM testnet will expand Sonic’s ecosystem, including the developer experience for someone looking to launch dApps on new SVMs.
Overall, the platform is laying a firm foundation for the eventual launching of Sonic’s SVM mainnet—aiming to herald in a new era of scalable Web3 gaming.
